There has been studies done to determine if high intensity interval training (HIIT) workouts improve mental health and there is, in fact, evidence to prove that it does. HIIT improves one’s perception of their own health and increases life satisfaction (Shepherd, 2015). There was one specific study that was done on specifically on patients who suffer from mental illnesses, and high intensity interval training improves the mental health of these people and lessens the severity of specific symptoms some of these people face. For example, it decreased depression in both depression and bipolar patients and possibly reduced psychopathy in patients (Martland, 2020). This study also confirmed that these workouts do not cause any type of acute injury. HIIT also helps reduce both anxiety and stress.
